The absorbed energy can be released during the transition to a lower energy state, either in the form of heat (radiationless deactivation) or through the emission of light (luminescence). Chemiluminescence refers to light emitted following the excitation of a chemical reaction. This phenomenon is utilized in the analysis of nitrogen gases. Nitrogen monoxide reacts with ozone to form excited nitrogen dioxide. The subsequently emitted light is amplified and measured via a photomultiplier. To analyze nitrogen dioxide, it must first be reduced to nitrogen monoxide using a catalyst. Only then can it be detected as described above. If all nitrogen oxides in a sample gas stream are to be measured, the nitrogen monoxide content must be measured first. This measurement is performed without a catalyst. Subsequently, the gas stream is passed over the catalyst, reducing the nitrogen dioxide to NO, and the sum of NO and NO2 (NOx) is determined. Since nitrogen oxides are primarily produced during combustion, this analytical method is used in exhaust gas measurement technology for power plants, the automotive industry, and environmental technology. Chemiluminescence is used as the measurement method in the ecom-J2KNpro TECH.

["post-5567","glossar","type-glossar","status-publish","hentry
["GET
